1. The God who created and who sustains you asks, “Where are you?”
There is an unbelieving world all around us. Have you seen the skeptics? Or the atheists? Those that hate the church? Those that want to tear or burn it down? It is all around us. It is easy to get discouraged and want to give up. Or throw in the towel. But, what if there was a different approach? What if the world is "getting darker," so that our lives will burn brighter? What if the people who are leaving the church, was never truly there in the 1st place? It feels like were a "post- Christian" nation. What if the reality is that what has been left is a purer/ more concentrated form or Christ followers. We may not pack buildings and have mass...
Where is your gauge @?
When you come to church? There sometimes? What about when you do make it? Are you expecting God to show up? Maybe?
When you come, are you willing to listen to the message? Maybe? When you are there and you hear from God will you do what He says? Will you take the challenge?
I think that most people's gauge is not at the 100% mark. Am I wrong? I wish not. I have seen so many people who complain about the state of affairs- but are willing to do something about it? Usually?
Is the church exempt- nope. Are churches filling up- sometimes. Usually when bad things happen.
What would it look like to get engaged, to be involved to flip ...
This Sunday- 10th. Is National Back to church Sunday!
But if you get put of bed, why will you come to church? Or, why do you turn back over and get more shut eye? There has to be a reason for what we do? It is we do not see the need? Are we just really sleepy? Is church boring?
I want to make a 40 day challenge. There are a lot of forty days. It rained on Ark for 40 days and nights. Jesus was tempted in wilderness for 40 days. Israelites wondered for 40 years in wilderness. In the bible is was a time of trial or probation.
I have the challenge for 40 days, so that it becomes a habit. Try making it a point to go every Sunday for the next 40 days. That's like 6 ...
I love the summer, but sometimes I find it a bummer. Yes, the weather is nice and its fun to do the outdoor thing. BUT- many people neglect coming to church. We want to go to....and insert the blank (cabin, lake, camping, sleep in). The list is endless. I cant blame you. We have about 4-5 months of great weather. Now, as the weather cools, and colors change into fall. How about asking yourself this question. Can I commit to making church a habit and priority? We get out of the habit of going, what it we fall into the habit of going again? Try it...I think you will like it!
Do we really believe that prayer changes things? I saw the other day 2 bumper stickers, that caused me to laugh/ roll my eyes. One was a frog (no harm done). There was an acronym F.R.O.G. Full Rely on God. I thought do we do that/ why is there a frog as the mascot? The other was a closed door with the acroynm P.U.S.H. I thought huh, must not be a handle. THEN- Yup (Prayer Until Something Happens). Then it hit me. What is we are walking aroud, trying to pull open door that God has closed? And that we are coming to door and we need to stand at the door and pray until something happens?
Our church is in the midst of a 90 day challenge to Pray Until Something Happens. ...
Have you ever noticed how quick time goes? It seems that every year it flies quicker and quicker. Did we not just turn the calendar to the 2000's and now were 16 years into the 2000's. Did we not just turn the calendar to a new year? Now its already more than half over. How do we slow down? How can we enjoy the moment by moments that seem to fly by? I think it is a shift of mindset. Many of us live with a chronos mindset. It is minutes, hours, days and years. When we live by this, it does fly. There is another word to live by- Kairos. This is the supreme moments. Its on a meta-level. That sees to look for the God moments. To see things from a ...
It is summer time! Some say yeah..others scream nay! That is time for sun, lemonade, family, cookouts, ponds, lakes, boats, vacation. Others think: sunburns, mosquitos, burned food from the grill, seeing family... Have you ever noticed that whatever we do, there are 2 sides? We can see the positive or the negative. The mantra that I live by is- whatever we count up, will mount up. So, will we count our problems, or our blessings? Know that this is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. The next time a problem comes your way, see how many ways you can thank God for another day! Build the muscle of gratitude and see how it changes your attitude.
Its the start of a new year. That means it is a chance to set new goals and go for them! Its a chance to try to attain what you never thought possible. I ask, what is holding you back? There are endless opportunities (go back to school, lose the weight, stop smoking, marathon, make the ask). This is it! Make 2016 the best year for you! BUT, I want to challenge you to go further than physical, relational, career-oriented goals. What about your spiritual goals? Have you though about how to take the first or next step in your relationship with God? Maybe this year it is read the Bible once a day. Make sure you pray at least once a day. Take time to join together with other ...
